Animal Reproduction

Animal Reproduction

The Animal Reproduction Department of INIA studies both basic and applied aspects of reproduction in farm and wildlife animals. We are particularly interested in the development and application of assisted reproductive technologies (e.g. cryopreservation of gametes and embryos, AI, IVF, MOET and sperm and embryo sexing) to animal production and conservation.

Noticia

The Animal Reproduction Department is located on the Campus of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), close to the Veterinary Faculty, and belongs to the Moncloa Campus, which is one of the main Spanish Campus of International Excellence. The Department addresses different aspects of reproductive physiology and biotechnologies in different animal species in order to understand the basic mechanisms that regulate fertility and embryonic development, conserve animal genetic resources and biodiversity, promote animal welfare, optimize animal production and developing new reproductive biotechnologies for use in improving the reproductive efficiency of animals in the face of new challenges in animal production, conservation, assisted reproduction, sustainable development and the impact of environmental changes.

Research

Multidisciplinary research activities are developed in the Department through different specialized work groups in various areas of knowledge related to physiology, pathology, and technology reproductive in different animal species. The work focuses on developing innovative practices in animal reproduction and subsequent promoting of research transference to satisfy the demands on livestock production and for animal conservation.
